How and at what age did you start with sport shooting and competing in the IPSC?
At the age of 9, I competed with my Dad in the airsoft MilSim games. I then insisted on competing in every airsoft practical shooting match, in accordance with IPSC rules, that was held near my home. When I was ten, some range officials let me try out a real pistol, but my parents were not ready to buy me my first real pistol until I was eleven. I then began attending local shooting club competitions and IPSC matches.
What do you like best about the IPSC?
I love the rush of adrenaline during shooting matches and the challenge of reading and executing the stages, weighing speed vs. accuracy. I also enjoy meeting new friends from all over the world.
Why did you choose CZ pistols?
I got interested in CZ pistols because they’re used by the world’s top shooters, like Eric Grauffel and Robin Sebo, and thought if they can shoot them so well, so can I. I gave them a try and found that CZ pistols fit perfectly with my shooting style. With the CZ TS 2, I especially like how quickly the slide locks and returns to the forward position, as it allows for immediate follow-up shots.
How and why did you join the CZ Shooting Team?
Even as a kid, I always admired the CZ Shooting Team. I would see its members take part in international competitions and told myself that I would be a member someday. And eventually, I did join the team.
I was first introduced to the shooting team’s manager by an IPSC Regional Director, and later on, got in with the assistance of the CZ Flagship Store in the Philippines. I joined the team knowing that CZ supports the growth of its athletes in the sport. Now that I am on the team, I really appreciate the insights and advice given by my teammates.
How do you prepare for a competition?
I dry fire every day and shoot at least once a week. I then practice at least 3 times a week with live rounds about a month before big competitions. After joining the CZ Shooting Team, I was able to train at the EG-CZ Academy with a thousand rounds a day for an entire week, which was a few months before World Shoot XIX. It was the most intense training of my shooting career to date.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Trust the process and be committed to what you want to achieve, despite the challenges, and believe that something good will come out of it.
What has been your biggest success in the IPSC so far?
My biggest success was winning the Standard Overall division in both the Junior and Team categories at the World Shoot XIX. This success was very satisfying, and what made it even better was that it coincided with the worldwide premiere of the CZ TS2 Orange pistol, which I used in the championship competitions.
How would you rate your firearm (handling, accuracy, etc.)?
I was the happiest during the World Shoot XIX, where I did not experience a single malfunction, or even a hint of any problem, in all thirty stages of the competition. In addition, strong hand and weak hand stages have always been difficult for me, but with the CZ TS 2 ORANGE, I had smooth runs. So that’s a 10 for me!!!
