Two important shooting competitions organized under the patronage of Czech-Moravian Union of Gamekeepers took place at the weekend of 26 and 27 May 2018 at the Hvězda shooting range in Kotojedy near Kroměříž - a national Hunting Rifle Tetrathlon championship and a national Combined Hunting Shooting championship. Both these competitions were dominated by Tomáš Staněk, a shooter from the CZ Shooting Team, who won gold medals in both championships and became the Czech champion in both disciplines.
The national Hunting Rifle Tetrathlon championship organized by the Czech-Moravian Union of Gamekeepers took place on Saturday of May, 26. Every competitor fired five rounds at targets in sequence including a fox, roebuck, chamois and wild boar at the distance of 100 meters. The time limit in this competition is set at five minutes. Three shooters, Tomáš Staněk, Jindřich Mahel and Karel Kotrc achieved the same result in the final, when they got the same number of points in the main competition – 199. Each of them lost a single point on the last target, when shooting at a wild boar. It was followed by a shoot-out, which determined the final ranking of the shooters. This thrilling duel saw Tomáš Staněk with his CZ 527 Varmint rifle in calibre .222 Remington achieve the highest number of points, 49, from all participants, beating by a very narrow margin the second in ranking, Jindřich Mahel with 47 points. Unfortunately, Karel Kotrc was accidentally shooting at a neighbouring target and, therefore, his result achieved in the final shoot-out did not count in the final ranking, and he ended up third.
The national Combined Hunting Shooting championship organized by the Czech-Moravian Union of Gamekeepers took place at the Hvězda shooting range in Kotojedy on Sunday of May, 27. The combined hunting shooting competitions consist of two parts, one with a rifle and the other with a shotgun. The rifle part includes shooting at targets in sequence including a fox (2x), a roebuck (2x), a chamois (2x), a standing wild boar and a running wild boar. Both CZ Shooting Team competitors achieved excellent results in this discipline. Martin Šlechta only lost three points and Tomáš Staněk four points of the total of 400 possible points. It was followed by the shotgun discipline, with the same maximum number of points as the rifle discipline. Tomáš Staněk managed to prove his qualities in this contest as well, reaching for the gold with the total result of 772 points. Martin Šlechta took the silver with 769 points, by a very narrow margin ahead of the third, Karel Kotrc with 768 points. Both CZ Shooting Team competitors used the CZ 527 Varmint rifle in .222 Remington calibre.
