The Legendary CZ 75 Pistol is Back with a Limited Series

Uherský Brod, Czech Republic – The legend among the Czech firearms had already been on the scene for four decades. Now this model returns as a collector’s item – in a series of mere 525 pieces. While at its home country the CZ 75 pistol made by Česká zbrojovka, Uherský Brod was not an instant success, although its quality was ahead of its time for many years to come. The communist regime did not take proper care about pistol’s patent protection and, moreover preferred firearms made in the Soviet Union.

When in 1975 the CZ Company presented this handgun at the world fair in Spain, the firearms makers were petrified and called it straight the Bomb from Madrid. Now four decades old plans of Mr. František Koucký reveal why. No other firearm fit so well in hand, and moreover its trigger pull weight was at the half values of its competitors. Nowadays completing a three-dimensional designs is a work for computer, in 1970s the designer had to get things done with only pencil and drawing ink. "He had to have an outstanding imagination, so he knew what to draw in particular section and what not," said Technical Director of Česká zbrojovka plant in Uherský Brod, Ing. Radek Hauerland.

In thirty-seven years in Uherský Brod they made one million and one hundred thousand pieces of the legendary CZ 75. Today this pistol can boast about 150 variants and is shot in 85 countries of the world. "It is quite strange that in then socialistic bloc there was in production a pistol chambered in the imperialistic 9x19 mm cal.”, said Josef Turek from the Institute of Military History (Vojenský historický ústav).
