40th anniversary of the CZ 75 pistol evolution

It has been exactly four decades since the 29th April 1969, when the factory in Uherský Brod started the story of the most famous and the most successful Czech pistol ever made – the legendary CZ 75.
The new information taken from the company archives of Česká Zbrojovka a.s. has revealed that the very beginnings of development of the remarkable “seventy-five” could be most probably dated back to the meeting of the so called Assessment Commission at the arms factory in Uherský Bord held on 29th April 1969. That was the milestone attended by the “father of CZ”, Mr. František Koucký to determine binding technical specifications regarding the development of a new pistol in 9 mm Parabellum calibre, including the request for utilisation of the double-action trigger mechanism.

As the set of requirements defined at the meeting on 29th April 1969 was a straight forward guideline for the focus of any design works and rendered direct results in evolution of the phenomenal model CZ 75, the date has been placed among the key milestones within the “seventy-five” evolution period. Thanks to the comprehensive company archives, we are able to recall the 40th anniversary of this undeservedly forgotten event.

The CZ 75 pistol, as well as any models derived from this firearm, have been considered the best versions of “the wonder nines” and belong to the global most favourite and best sold handguns of this category. The series production of “seventy-fives” was first launched in the year 1977 with the one-millionth member to the CZ 75 family being assembled at the factory of Česká Zbrojovka a.s. two years ago. One of its compact models has been supplied for the complete rearmament of the Police of the Czech Republic. The sporting fields are dominated by the service and combat model CZ 75 SP-01, which helped Adam Tyc to win the World Championship in 2008 in the Production Division according to the rules of the IPSC. The year 2008 saw the product range of Česká Zbrojovka a.s. booming with the first CZ 75 featuring a radically simplified trigger mechanism – the Omega system. This mechanism has been also used in production of the current new release, the CZ 75 P-07 Duty, which represents a significantly different, highly sophisticated generation of “seventy-fives”.

The story that began on 29th April 1969 has continued throughout the 21st century and this is mainly thanks to the current successors of the legendary master, Mr. František Koucký, towards further evolution of his genial masterpiece, which has sprung way ahead in time and stunned the World -– the Czech pistol model CZ 75.
