CZ75 P-07 Duty, Czech Polymer (News from CZ)

 Adrian de Rosa, Argentin

How did I get her?

The meeting of shooters focused on promotion of Tiro Federal (Federal Shooting) from Rosario, which is mentioned in this forum, included one contest that united all the shooters willing to participate with any gun at hand something like “come and shoot” event. I assisted one shooter with some problem in the first series, he had a gun resembling the CZ100 or 110 and I was also surprised with ammunition in a plastic box, which would be commonly used to hold fishing hooks or buttons. It wasn’t one of those usual boxes with square slots to hold one round in each opening, yet the rounds were oriented with their tips up – those are pointing downwards in regular boxes. That was actually something extraordinary, I could not focus on the gun during the tournament, yet I could not forget about the “weird” box either.
When it came to my turn, my neighbour on the left put the box with ammunition down and I noticed it was the same one as before, as that was the day of “weird boxes” epidemics…. I glanced at the gun and realised it was the same one as before, yet handled by its owner, Robert, this time. I asked him, whether it was the CZ100 and he replied: “No, this is the Duty model.“ As we were shooting, we arranged to meet later and take some photographs, so you could see a few pictures of the gun.
I obviously need to thank Robert for his willing approach, he came to me after the shooting session and we set off for a while to take some pictures and compile these comments presented here.
I just want to tell you that some of the pictures are not as I would like them to be, as these were taken in a rush, while being called for the club meeting, there is too few photographs here, yet still better than nothing, isn’t it?

The Gun

The CZ 75 P-07 Duty was introduced on the market by the CZ company in 2008.
The brand suffered from certain business issues with CZ 100 and its modification - the CZ 110, which did not yield the results as expected. In my opinion, these results do not concern the business field only, yet they relate to the technical aspects as well. To put this straight, these guns did not fulfil the expectations.
the new model made from polymer materials was developed by the company’s in-house department and it is called the CZ 75 P-07 Duty, the CZ 75 is evidently a trade name only, as we will have the opportunity to see that this gun has nothing in common with the legendary CZ 75 – the corner stone of the company’s fame – and the letter “P” stands for polymer, 07 refers to the model number and the “Duty” attribute serves its meaning in the English language, which indicates two things – the gun is intended for the international market and especially for the USA to be issued to law enforcement and military units as well as for the civilians, who carry handguns for personal protection.

The gun boasts aesthetically attractive characteristics and robust appearance.

It is a self-loading gun with magazine holding 16 rounds calibre 9 x19, with Browning type slide enhanced with the inclined barrel, the whole upper assembly (breech system, barrel, the reverse spring) is made from steel and the frame is plastic, even though it has metal receiver as most of the new plastic firearms, there are actually two here to serve as support for the mechanisms within and the frame groove for slide. The magazine is made from sheet metal with a plastic bottom

The beauty from another perspective.

I admire the gun from the aesthetics point of view, its soft profiles and omission of angles or edges, which might impair its drawing from holster or latch the movement, the plastic frame features anti-slip finish from all sides, even on the thumb rests. It is provided with double-sided controls except for the slide catch (which serves for disassembly, same as on steel CZ’s), the moving safety is fitted on both sides and the magazine latch can be placed on either side depending on the shooter’s control hand.
sighting is catered for by the low-profile Novak type sights with corresponding front sight, the U-shaped white line and a white dot on the front sight to aid sighting under low visibility conditions.

Detailed view of the magazine ejection point, it can be mounted on the other side to cater of left-handed shooters, with the Novak type low-profile sights shown.

The square trigger and a mounting slot for accessories below the gun frame present special aesthetic features which I found very likable, the size is just small enough, yet not too much. I wouldn’t know how the gun would into larger shooter’s hand but it is just about right for my medium-sized palms. Judging by the associated models, we already know that the CZ people are fully familiar with characteristics as ergonomics and this P-07 would not make any exception.
